ARTIST STATEMENT

My artistic approach is deeply rooted in the use of natural materials and processes to convey my thoughts on the relationship between humans and nature. My creative journey begins with the selection of materials, such as corn husk fibres, coir rope, and flower petals, which are incorporated into my works using natural dye processes. The techniques of knotting, weaving, and tying are integral to my artistic process, and they metaphorically symbolize the idea of togetherness and the act of keeping things together.

Living in a South Delhi colony surrounded by trees, squirrels, and birds, I have firsthand experience of the clashes between human expansion and the natural environment. The occasional trimming of trees disrupts the ecological habitat of these creatures, forcing them to adapt to man-made structures for survival. This daily observation inspires me to contemplate how modernity has led humanity to become increasingly disconnected from its origins in Mother Earth, resulting in a loss of awareness of our interconnectedness with nature. I reflect on the constant tension between humanity's drive for growth and nature's relentless efforts to revert and reclaim itself.

I weave together fragments of nature, personal narratives, and intimate spatial encounters. I draw inspiration from the fundamental question of human existence posed by Gauguin, "Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?" and echoes Alan Watts' perspective that our true nature encompasses everything around us, emphasizing the illusionary nature of the boundaries we create between ourselves and the natural world.

My art serves as a powerful reminder of the vital connection between humans and nature, encouraging viewers to reevaluate their relationship with the environment and reflect on the impact of human actions on the world around us.
